My wife and I received letters from the DWP debt management department on Friday 3/12/21 demanding repayment of £3,391.34 by 3/1/22 for universal credit payments, which we did not apply for nor receive. I just spent 3 hours making many calls to the DWP, (0800 169 0190) sellecting various options which I thought appropriate but each time being referred to their website http://www.gov.uk before terminating my call. At 16.05 I fnally I got on their call waiting system, and I waited and waited listening to constant messages and dreadful music. Then at 17.40 my call was terminated. I assumed this was when their lines shut down however, I immediately called back to check only to hear a message stating that their offices are now closed for a public holiday reopening on 4/1/22. Not only is it impossible to speak to a human, they are now closed for one month!!!???
Something must be done about this.
