The Role:
We’re looking for an Accountant to join our shared service Finance team. The role is responsible for working across both management accounts and financial compliance.
The Accountant will also be responsible for some key deliverables within the team including balance sheet reconciliations, financial reporting, interim / year-end packs and quarterly VAT returns. They will also play an integral role in monthly deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform, complete and review key balance sheet reconciliations ensuring appropriate accounting rules are adhered to
- Interpret and cascade financial accounting/reporting policies, standards, procedures and timetables.
- Contribute to group-wide finance projects
- Post journals on a monthly basis including appropriate challenge of backup provided
- Investigation of key cost variances against the profit and loss forecast at month end
- Own and prepare the quarterly VAT returns including liaising with our internal Tax team
- Delivery of quarterly financial reporting (FINREP) and half yearly interim and year end pack to support the period closes
- Liaise with external and internal auditors as required
- Develop relationships with other Finance teams including, but not exclusively the Central FP&A team, Central project finance team, Bank consolidation team and business Finance teams
- Ongoing process review and improvement to maintain excellent financial control. All process notes to be maintained and updated where required
- Actively support the Company’s Vision and Values, ensuring that it is promoted and adhered to within the team
- Treasury management
- Other ad hoc duties as required
Qualifications:
- Educated to degree level with relevant accounting qualification (e.g. qualified chartered accountant) and at least one-year PQE preferred
- Experience of generating articulate and succinct communication of key trends, issues and value drivers to senior management, either verbally or in written form
- Comfort with ambiguity and a lack of perfect information – competent at making and defending reasonable assumptions to arrive at an answer when information is incomplete, or time is limited
- Financial reporting environment awareness i.e. able to comprehend the impact of accounting issues to the numbers being analysed
- Ability to act and operate independently with daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives
- Organised, ability to multitask and prioritise workload
- Excellent attention to detail and customer service focus essential
