Sfaff held hostage at the Newcastle East Jobcentre Plus have been released by a man armed with a knife. The knifeman entered the Clifford Street Jobcentre at around 8:00 am and held several members of staff hostage.
Armed police and negotiators responded to the incident and closed the Jobcentre Plus as a precautionary measure.
A statement released by Northumbria Police said: “Police are aware that there are a number of concerns about the ongoing situation in Byker following recent terror incidents in Manchester and London.
“At this time there is no information or intelligence to suggest this is a terrorist incident.”
The knifeman was known to the Jobcentre and Northumbria Police aren’t treating it as a terrorist incident.
