We are looking for an assistant shop manager to provide 10 hours per week support in the shop, with flexible additional hours including relief cover for the Shop Manager.

The Shop has grown significantly over the past few months and we now need some additional management capacity to help us maintain that growth and to provide support to our hardworking manager.

The role will be for three months in the first instance with a review to see how business is as the pandemic response changes.

Job Description and Person Specification

10 hours p.w split across 2 mornings per week with potential for additional hours and holiday cover for manager
Normal working hours: 8.00—1.00 Pay rate: £8.72 per hour (25 years and over)

Reporting to: The Shop Manager
Job purpose
To act as assistant manager to the Manager to help ensure the continued development of the shop as a happy vibrant community shop
Main duties
Ensure the site and shop is open to receive deliveries and prepare the shop for customers, including carrying out health and safety checks, presentation of sales items, checking quality and dates and keeping shop shelves full
Receiving, unpacking, storing and displaying deliveries for that day and checking quality and pricing
Write up newspaper names and process newspapers for delivery
Check emails and ensure appropriate action is being taken
Check customer reserved items and ensure they are packed accordingly
Oversee/ take customer orders on the phone, Facebook or in person, and ensure deliveries are packed and ready for the delivery volunteers
Oversee the till ensuring all customers are served to a high standard.
Supervise the selling of alcohol and tobacco in line with licensing requirements
Supervise and provide appropriate guidance to shop volunteers
Keep customer database up to date and accurate
Help to spread the word about the shop and help with volunteer recruitment activity
Deputise for the manager when required
Any other such duties as the manager may decide from time to time

Experience and skills required
Strong customer service
Observing excellent food hygiene – training provided.
Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office (essential) and EPOS till system (desirable)
Ability to work effectively with volunteers/ unpaid workers
