Personal Support Worker needed for young person with complex physical, learning and medical needs. The young person lives at home with his mother and goes to college three days a week and to social care one day a week (when not covid).  The young person has a team of staff, some of whom work weekly and some of whom work for holidays, weekends away, etc (again when not covid).

The young person is non verbal and communicates by sounds, visible emotions and looking at choices of objects/pictures.

The young person loves horses, some dogs, swimming, travelling and has favourite films and TV programmes. The young person also loves a good singsong.

The young person has obstructed breathing and is on Cpap overnight. The young person also has complex suctioning needs which can be emergency or maintenance depending on their secretions which change constantly.

Essential

Ability to cope well in a crisis situation.
A very confident and experienced driver, happy to pullover quickly in a suctioning emergency (second carer doing suctioning needs) whilst on motorway, country roads, etc. Vehicle is a small wheelchair adapted van.
Able to manage crisis suctioning needs and be confident in suctioning (after training).
Have a good sense of humour and be willing to carry out a range of tasks and activities.
Willing and able to lift and handle without hoist in occasional two person situation, eg when camping, going on kayaks, etc.
Able to keep confidentiality and respect privacy of the family/young person.
Be covid safe and aware (expected to wear PPE for full shifts, apart from meals/drinks) and take weekly covid tests.

Desirable

Likes horses and not scared of them or allergic to them.
C1 License enabling driver to drive up to 7.5 ton (motorhome is 3.7 ton)
Previous care experience/training/qualifications.

Post Entails :

Working a range of shifts including some shifts starting at 7am finishing at 10am, some starting 2pm ending at 11pm, some waking overnights, some hours at weekends and some days/hours over school holidays. Drive to and from college and to leisure activities.
Personal, social and medical care (all training given).
Staff always work 2:1, sometimes with mum but usually with another staff member.
Able to follow complex written instructions ( e.g., medicine timetables/amounts, etc)
Keep shift records.
Putting away stock (continence equipment, feeds), stock checking
Willingness to occasionally cook, clean, muck in, all involving the young person.
At present there are 5 – 22 hours per week available dependent on applicant (possibly more when not covid). During covid as and when and dependent on person(s)  applying.
£12.00 per hour (including weekends and bank holidays)
Part-time hours: 5 – 22 per week

COVID-19 considerations:
All staff required to take weekly covid tests. All staff to follow covid safe guidelines. All staff to wear PPE at work.
