Basic Pay: £25,085 per annum (additional on-call and overtime payments)

Working in the funeral profession is deeply challenging and emotionally demanding, yet incredibly rewarding. As a Funeral Service Operative, you will be providing compassionate and practical care for both the deceased and the bereaved in often difficult circumstances and varying weathers.

Responsibilities:

You will assist in transporting the deceased from the place of death to rest in our funeral home with dignity and professionalism.
Assist in dressing and preparation of the deceased, ensuring the utmost dignity and respect throughout the process.
Maintain meticulous attention to detail in handling identification and personal effects procedures.
Furnishing coffins, engraving nameplates, and grave markers.
Drive and maintain our fleet of prestige vehicles, ensuring cleanliness and adherence to high standards.
Act as a bearer when required, displaying dignity and respect in all funeral proceedings.
Ensure the work environment remains clean and tidy at all times.
Be responsible for a high standard of personal appearance, conduct and company property.
Contribute to a clean and organised work environment, demonstrating initiative and adherence to company policies.
Participate in the erection of headstones in cemeteries, following health and safety protocols.
Assist the Funeral Directors and colleagues in delivering a customer-focused service that exceeds client expectations.
Fully comply with the company’s internal procedures and NAFD Code of Practice.
Engage actively with communities and assist the Funeral Directors in maintaining business relationships with external parties such as clergy, celebrants, cemetery, and crematoria staff etc whilst acting as a trusted and well-respected ambassador for Donald McLaren Ltd.

Requirements:

Possess a practical, can-do attitude coupled with a caring nature and emotional maturity.
Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to excellent client service.
Be able to demonstrate reasonable numeracy and literacy skills.
Maintain physical fitness, capable of lifting and carrying heavy weights in accordance with manual handling procedures.
Be responsive to detailed instructions ensuring tasks are completed within agreed timescales.
Be available for on-call duties as part of our 24-hour team.
Hold a current UK driving licence for at least 10 years, with the ability to drive all types of vehicles (your license will be checked every year).
Understand and appreciate the importance of delivering a perfect final tribute for families, ensuring meticulous attention to detail.
