Ahad’s Gosforth currently have a position available for a bakery chef.

This exciting opportunity is for an experienced Bakery Chef well versed in traditional Indian orauthentic Bangladeshi style cooking. The candidate will be looking to develop their existing skills and progress with a well reputed Indian Restaurant based in a prime location Gosforth, Newcastle. There are ambitious plans for growth, with the opening of further restaurants in future, making this is a very exciting time to join the team.

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent.
Salary: £26,000 – £30,000 per annum (depending on experience).

Experience Required
o NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) (not crucial);

o Level 1, 2, and 3 Food Safety Awards (minimum Level 2 required);

o Level 2 Health and Safety in the Workplace Awardideal;

o Minimum 3 years relevant experience in Indian or Bangladeshi cuisine;

o Some awareness of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) and chemical safety preferred;

o Experience in kitchen equipment;

o Experience of dangerous equipment such as knives;

o Competent level of English spoken and written;

o Enthusiasm to develop your own skills and knowledge plus those around you;

o Adaptability to change and willingness to embrace new ideas and processes;

o Ability to work unsupervised and deliver quality work;

o Positive and approachable manner;

o Team player qualities.

Daily Job Responsibilities
Set up the kitchen with cooking utensils and equipment, including knives, pans and kitchen scales
Study each recipe and gather all necessary ingredients
Cook food in a timely manner
Delegate tasks to kitchen staff
Inform wait staff about daily specials
Ensure appealing plate presentation
Supervise cooks and assist as needed
Modify recipes to meet customers’ needs and requests (e.g. reduce salt, remove dairy)
Monitor food stock and place orders
Check freshness of food and discard out-of-date items
Experiment with recipes and suggest new ingredients
Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area including date-dotting and daily/weekly/monthly documentations to ensure 5-star hygiene rating
Clean all kitchen equipment and kitchen/store areas when KP not on duty
Maintain all professional responsibilities and relationships with front of house team including restaurant manager and owners
Open kitchen and ensure all equipment operational and ready for service
Close down kitchen and store securely ensuring all equipment is switched off especially fat-fryers, cookers, tandoor etc
Inform manager or owners of any damages, breakages, maintenance or security matters
A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in world-class restaurants and hotels specialising in authentic Indian Cuisine. You can change that as per your requirements.

ideally someone who has experience in south Asian bakery!

An accredited qualification in Catering from the UK or overseas. You can change that as per your requirements
